Lo Nuestro Petit Hotel

This was my best vacation in years, and Lo Nuestro made the trip special. It’s a pension-style place a few blocks from Tulum Pueblo’s main street, with lots of restaurants nearby. Our room was adorable, with air conditioning and a hammock on the patio. We parked on the street and drove to activities every day.

The staff were friendly and the room was clean, but it had very small windows. We arrived during the fair, and loudspeakers across the street played the same tape again and again until almost midnight. A warning about that would have been appreciated.

We booked five nights, but after the second one the owner moved us to another room without telling us. He went through our private things while moving them and broke some ceramic cups I had made myself. He insisted it wasn’t his fault, wouldn’t apologize, and offered no compensation. He also said moving guests and handling their belongings without telling them was completely normal everywhere in the world because he had traveled widely, and felt sorry for me if I didn’t know that. I wouldn’t recommend a place where the owner treats guests’ belongings that way. It felt highly unprofessional. There also wasn’t a car parking space as described. You can only use public parking, which isn’t advisable everywhere, especially at night.

The decor was pretty nice, but the place was very humid. I’d double-check any sightseeing advice they give you rather than taking it at face value. Food in Tulum is quite expensive, really everything is, so booking somewhere with breakfast might be a better option.
