Moonshine Tulum Hotel

The location worked well, close to the bus station, grocery stores, and a few restaurants. I liked having a communal kitchen, and the poolside area was a nice spot to relax. The staff were kind and tried to fix the problems, but the place could use upgrades. Our stay at Moonshine hotel and hostel wasn’t great, mainly due to dirty rooms and mosquitoes. The pool didn’t look clean, and the bathrooms were often out of toilet paper or had clogged toilets. There also wasn’t much going on there.

The staff were really kind and helpful. On my first night, though, I was in a ground floor room where the broken sliding patio door wouldn’t close. I told them the next day and learned the other ground floor room had the same problem. The receptionist kindly moved me upstairs to the second floor and helped carry my heavy luggage, but that room’s air conditioner didn’t work, so there was only a fan. The ground floor room also seemed to have mold: the bed felt damp and the curtains had mold stains. Other guests were inconsiderate too. There was a lot of shouting and door slamming on my first night, making it hard to sleep, and some people had video calls on very loud speakers. I was surprised by how people behaved here, and didn’t get to connect with anyone. The staff were great, but the place itself wasn’t.

Alex was quick to answer questions and really helpful. Communicating with one concierge was difficult because their English was limited, which matters a lot in a hostel or hotel. I felt safe and comfortable in the 6-bed Female Dorm, and they encourage peace and quiet. I got some of my best sleep here. Towels cost 50 Pesos. I enjoyed staying at Moonshine, and Mia the dog is always happy to greet you!

I’ve stayed here multiple times. It’s a great spot to chill, get work done, or head out to nearby parties and come back somewhere quiet away from the music. The rooftop pool and rooftop kitchen area are favorites of mine. Alex, Mia the lovely dog, and the rest of the staff are all so welcoming and nice. This hostel is amazing!
