The design is lovely in the rooms above ground level, whether they face the road or the courtyard. Ground-floor rooms, especially those facing the courtyard, have little privacy. People from the neighborhood can walk into the planted courtyard with its garden furniture and look straight into the room. Aldea Zama is a very nice area, at least. The pool is small and shallow, and privacy is an issue there too. People can come in from the street and watch guests sunbathing. The hotel’s screen between the pool and plaza only covers part of the area, and it’s made of a few thick bamboo planks with gaps, so it barely works as a proper fence.

Small and cozy, with lovely rooms and friendly staff. The restaurant food was good, and bikes were available. I’d highly recommend it.

The breakfast staff were the bright spot of our stay. The gentlemen were warm and friendly, and breakfast was easily the best part of our time there. The restaurant gets 8/10 for lifting our spirits, and the location 8/10 for being close to good restaurants while far enough from the bustle. Kiin Tulum sits in a peaceful neighborhood just outside the busy center, a good location if you want quiet but still want civilization nearby. There are plenty of nice restaurants close by, which helped make up for the mystery breakfast hours. The hotel gets 6/10 for its interactive mystery experience and digital detox. The receptionist’s approach felt avant-garde. We had to guess when breakfast was and where it was served, and they photographed all our passports on a personal phone. The rooms were spacious and ready for Instagram, with a large shower, fridge, microwave, and TV, but there was no signal at all. YouTube Shorts was about the only thing we could watch, if you like random 15-second clips. Housekeeping seemed to have disappeared on a spiritual retreat. The bed had dirty, vintage-looking linen, and we got just one towel. The shower looked like a work of modern art but was strictly decorative, since warm water seemed to belong to another universe. We had to air-dry afterward, which was a brisk reminder of life’s little challenges.

We’ve stopped at this pizza place more than six times over several months, hoping to get a pizza, and every time they’re out. The oven’s never on, either. Honestly, it just seems pretty lazy.

The rooms look out over plants and trees, and the pool gets afternoon sun. The hotel is beautiful, and I love the aesthetic. Whoever designed it did a great job. We had good drinks at the bar, then well-priced pizza and pasta at the restaurant in the evening. We stayed three nights and had no noise trouble, despite what other reviews say about the location. It’s in a quieter, safer hotel area, with a short walk to restaurants, a convenience store, a mezcal bar, and a froyo and ice cream place. There’s shaded parking beside the hotel. The staff were really friendly and let us leave our bags for most of the day before we headed out, which we appreciated. I also liked the small touches: a water bottle in the room each day, a fresh smell in the rooms, and little turtle soaps.
