The Strabon Tulum

I felt very safe here as a solo woman traveller. It’s a quiet little hotel, close to lots of restaurants and cafés, with complimentary breakfast. My room was clean, the bed was really comfortable, and I loved having a small balcony. The pool never gets any sun, and there’s hardly anywhere to sit around it apart from bean bags. That’s just my personal downside. It’s also quite a way from the beach and tour meeting points, so keep that in mind.

The staff were wonderful, and I enjoyed getting to know them. My room had a balcony and plenty of space. In the mornings I’d sit among the plants and read. Centro Tulum is walkable, around 20-25 minutes, and I liked the leisurely walk to Don Cafeto for mole or El Camello for sopa. There’s a lively strip in Veletta with restaurants and good shops, about a 5-10 minute walk away. The beach is far, and getting taxis can be a hassle. If the beach is your main reason for coming, this may not be the place, though the hotel is happy to arrange day trips.

The room was generally spacious, though that seemed inconsistent. The dirt road outside and the location were bad, and I know it’s a developing town, but this was simply unacceptable. The short front desk man working on 1/1/2026 was extremely aggressive and colluded with a scammy taxi driver. The new guy was good, though. Avoid at all costs.

It’s a calm, clean little hotel with friendly staff, close to a street full of restaurants, shops, and rental businesses. Getting to the beaches is quite a trek without a scooter or ATV. The warm water didn’t always run, and the breakfast was not good at all.
