Cabañas Monte Alto Hotel Boutique

The cabañas look well kept from the outside, and the property is clean, so they get points for the effort. Inside, though, the rooms are very hot in the daytime and the furnishings are rough: water-damaged particleboard sinks, handrails rotting into the concrete, and very soft, worn mattresses. I usually don't pay much attention to room condition, and I actually prefer the firm beds common in Mexico, so these stood out. There isn't a chair in our room or anywhere else to sit, either. It's isolated but still unexpectedly noisy. Semis using their jake brakes on the main roads are louder than any fireworks you'll hear in Oaxaca. Parking seems limited to one car, maybe two. There are signs warning against bringing in alcoholic drinks, so no cervecas before dinner. One heads-up: the Google Maps pin is wrong. After leaving Calle a los Saucos, it's the second property on the left.
