Hotel Casa Máran

The room was a nightmare: it hadn’t been cleaned, and there was damp and mold on the wall. The bathroom smelled awful. The place is right by the main road with all the big trucks. Please don’t stay here, worst hotel in Yucatan 😱😱😱

Very good value for the price, with a restaurant and breakfast right on site, and one of the best in town. The hotel was extremely clean, modern, and comfortable. Hot water and water pressure were both strong, and there’s a 24-hour desk close to the ADO bus terminal, handy for arriving at 2am or other unholy hours. The Wi-Fi was the letdown: extremely unreliable and constantly disconnecting, so it’s no good for digital nomads. There also seemed to be a few bugs getting into the room. I’d give it five stars if not for the Wi-Fi.

The noise was unbearable. Trucks roar along the busy street deep into the night, and the windows do nothing to block it, so it feels like you’re sleeping right on the road. Across the street, a crazy bar/restaurant played party music so loudly we could feel the bass in our bed. It went on until 3:30 AM!!!! You may get a room without windows, or one with a balcony facing the street. There’s no Wi-Fi in the rooms, and when you go to reception to get a signal, they turn you away because “now you have WiFi”. Housekeeping also came straight into our room without knocking. One cleaner was clearly sick and coughed for hours on the floor while she “cleaned” the rooms. This really was one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. If you’re deaf, want bass vibrations at night, and don’t mind getting sick on vacation, this might be the place for you. Everyone else should avoid it.

Huge trucks go by every five minutes, and it feels like you’re trying to sleep in the middle of the street. The restaurant across the road blasts music until 4 a.m., deafeningly loud. If you want to get any sleep in a hotel, don’t choose this one. I can’t recommend it to anyone.
