Alberto, the owner, was kind, compassionate, and very business minded, and it was clear he really cares about his guests. We expected services in the Xpuhil area to be degraded after reading so many reviews of local restaurants and hotels. Then we found Hotel Hormiguero, which had enough five-star reviews to seem believable, and chose it. We weren’t disappointed and would definitely stay again.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was extremely clean and a great price, just a couple of blocks from the shopping area with its stores, restaurants, drugstores, and other places.

This is an independently run hotel, not part of a chain. The rooms are pretty, the service is good, and it’s conveniently placed among several Maya sites.

The little parking lot worked out fine, and there was a friendly cat around the grounds. I’d happily stay here again. I’d expected a pretty basic hotel, but this place surprised me in a good way. My room was on the ground floor, though there seem to be several floors. The dark curtains were nice, and it was quiet. If you’re nearby, the nightly bat migration is about a 45-minute drive away and worth seeing.
