Casa Kalmar

The infinity pool was lovely, and from there the views stretch over Zipolite and out to sea, with a welcome breeze. Our smaller room, Sirenas, was really comfortable and well designed, and breakfast was good. There’s coffee and tea available throughout the day. I got a deal of about 3k a night on Booking.com, and it was pretty booked up. I preferred staying here over being in Zipolite, and it’s only a short, pleasant walk into town. The place looks as good as the pictures.

The climb up the mountain from the beach is the main thing to keep in mind, but I think Casa Kal Mar is the best place to stay in Zipolite if you’re comfortable with it. It’s breezy above Playa Camaron, with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Breakfast is delicious and changes every day. Silvia manages the place and takes care of everything, which has made every return visit really memorable.

The town itself is safe, fun, and unique, and getting down to the beach or into town took us only a try or two to figure out. The stairs gave us a bit of a workout but never felt burdensome. At Casa KalMar, the pool was a highlight: large, always just the right temperature, and with incredible views. The rooms were comfortable, well air conditioned on hot afternoons, and cleaned daily. Common areas were thoughtfully arranged, with enough seating in sun or shade. Staff introduced themselves on day one and greeted us by name every morning. Sylvia was easy to reach before our stay and helped with grocery shopping ahead of our arrival and arranging home cooked dinners for a couple of nights. Those meals and breakfast were some of the best food we had on vacation. The view, pool, and accommodations are even better than the online photos suggest. It felt like home, and the whole trip was one to remember.

The beach and main restaurant spots are down a set of stairs, but the route is well lit at night and takes about 10-15 minutes. Staff were incredibly kind, and having a pool towel provided was a nice extra. This is a lovely little hotel with just six rooms and a great view from the pool. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order, delicious, and served in generous portions. I’d definitely recommend it.
