Hotel Casa Mixteca

The boutique hotel itself is lovely, with beautiful interiors, thoughtful details, and helpful staff. But my street-side room made for one of the worst holiday nights I’ve had. On Monday, a nearby bar played bad music extremely loudly until 2 PM, and on other nights I could hear two or three different streams of music from the street at once, right from my bed. During the day, construction was happening just behind the wall. If you’re paying to stay here, spend more for the room furthest from the street.

We loved the little kitchenette for making our own breakfast each morning. The location is great, about a two-minute walk from the beach and right on the town’s main strip, yet it stayed nice and quiet inside. I’d recommend it!

Toledo is on the top floor and furthest back from the street. I can’t speak for the other rooms, but I highly recommend this one. From bed, you wake up to an amazing ocean view, and there’s a private balcony with a hammock, table, and chairs. The few flights of stairs are worth it for the breeze and the view. Town can get very hot, but we were happy relaxing in our room with the fans and breeze, listening to birds during the day and music in the distance at night. Sometimes that music was less distant, but the beach is close. The shower is cold, which felt refreshing in the heat. We also made good use of the mini fridge and stovetop and sink, buying eggs and fruit at the local market for lazy breakfasts. Staff were wonderful, and gave us bug spray and tips for exploring the area.

I really enjoyed my stay. The covered patio was roomy, the hammock was so comfortable for lying around with a cold beer, and the room was cleaned thoroughly every day. It felt more like an apartment, with a full kitchen and good bed linens. There’s no AC, but the fan worked really well. Staff were friendly and pleasant and left us to ourselves. My only real complaint was the lack of hot water. I love a hot shower, and cold ones at my age aren’t fun at all. I’d stay again, but it’d be five stars with hot water.
