Hotel Casa Iturbe

The front desk lady was friendly and professional, and helped me arrange transportation to and from the El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. There’s a lively market area about a ten-minute walk away. I stayed one night in a double room at Hotel Casa Iturbe in early March 2025. It’s a stylish boutique hotel in a lively neighborhood, with modern Mexican minimalist interiors. My room was very clean and comfortable.

For a quiet stay, I’d suggest upgrading to one of the suites at the back. Rooms 1-4 get road and traffic noise during the day, though it’s quiet from 10pm-7am. Lalo (George), the resident manager, is warm and friendly. The chic boutique hotel has a classy lobby to hang out in, a small pool, and a cactus garden that makes it picturesque. The complimentary hot Mexican-Continental breakfast has three hot entrees along with the usual fare. The hotel, rooms, and rain shower in the huge ensuite bathroom are clean, well decorated, and functional. M@il & Wax pizza are good restaurants nearby.

Really enjoyed my stay. The staff were kind and helpful, and sorted out both a taxi and laundry for me. There are spa services and a heated pool in the courtyard, too. It’s a lovely boutique hotel tucked away at the back end of Zitácuaro, impeccably clean and comfortable, with a great breakfast. A great option for visiting the monarch preserves, then relaxing in a bit of luxury after the hike.

A lovely place to unwind, modern but relaxing, with beautiful, comfortable rooms. This gem is near one of Mexico’s great butterfly sanctuaries. The staff don’t all speak much English, but they’re still very helpful. One person in particular, whose name I can’t remember, went out of their way to help us get to the butterfly sanctuary.
