Hostel Ah Wai Hostel Ah Zhi

The tent setup feels fresh, and the bed was really comfortable. Zahir Mosque is nearby, and this lovely hostel offers a different sort of stay. I’ve been to lots of hostels, but this is easily one of my best. The staff are friendly, and I can’t wait to return.

The indoor tent was new to me, and I loved having my own private space. Everything was tidy and clean, but the thoughtful details really stood out. The tent had switches, a light, and a fan; the bathrooms had good heaters, towels, soap, and a dryer; and the kitchen had everything needed for cooking. The modern look also mixes in old and recycled things, which is cool. Zhi was very helpful with restaurant directions and planning my next trip. One of the best hostels of my five months travelling. Congratulations!

My wife and I usually steer clear of hostels, but we had an amazing stay here. Brian, the owner, was kind and helpful and did everything he could for us. The place was spotless, with brand new stuff and a sort of hippy, vintage decor. In the dorm, the air conditioning was strong, and each tent had a comfy bed, fan, lamp, and earplugs for sleeping. There was also a simple but tasty breakfast, complimentary and picked up by the owner each morning. It’s right in the city center, close to the landmarks, so getting around on foot or by Grab is cheap. Highly recommended!

I spent one night in the Goldsmith room, and for what I paid, it was well worth it. The kitchen, toilet, and facilities are made from recyclable materials, and the place looks great. Ah Zhi, the owner, is kind and hospitable. I’d definitely stay here again if I’m in Alor Setar. 10 out of 10, I recommend Hostel Ah Wai, Ah Zhi to anyone visiting and staying in town.
