Hotel O Utama Inn

It was quiet during the day and at night, and the location was great, near the waterfront, Central Market, Night Market, restaurants, eateries, lots of coffeeshops and mini marts, and the riverside Tua Pek Kong Temple. The hotel seemed relatively new, clean, and well maintained, with rooms laid out well. There wasn't a boiler in the room, though each floor had a hot water and alkaline water dispenser. Also, there's no elevator, so you have to use the stairs.

In Room 309, the air-conditioner barely cooled the room all night. Setting the remote to 16°C made no noticeable difference, and the indoor unit looked very dusty and dirty, so I’m not sure when it was last serviced. The rate was extremely cheap, though, so I suppose you get what you pay for. It was RM85 plus a RM50 deposit, RM135 per night.

We’ve stayed here for years, so being scammed this time was awful. I’d paid for a family room, but the hotelier said it was temporarily unavailable because of maintenance. When we arrived, the front desk said it had been sold to someone else and charged us an additional amount as compensation for two rooms. We have small children, and they put us on an upper level. Be very careful with this hotel, especially if you book online through places like 'Agoda'. Don’t be won over by the sweet talk. We were scammed.

There are lots of eateries nearby, especially Halal places, and it’s a short walk to what you need: about 3 minutes to the nearest bank and 5 minutes to Pasar Malam. The hotel itself was clean and tidy, with simple decor. Our room was comfortable, the water heater worked well, and the toilet had a water spray. Each floor has a water dispenser, and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. It’s a moderate budget stay on the 3rd floor, reached by stairs. Room prices depend on the size. A good option for a family, and the place seems well maintained.
