Apple Heritage Hotel

The hotel was far older and more worn than the photos suggested. There was a stained sofa and fraying threads on the cushions, and the towels and floor mat looked tired. Only shower gel was supplied, so we needed our own shampoo and conditioner; toothbrushes and shower caps were available. We also found used bedroom slippers that had been put back in a bag in the drawer, which felt unhygienic. Even after asking for a quiet room, we were given Room 101 beside the check-in counter. People coming and going and occasional phone ringing made it constantly noisy. Very disappointing.

I regretted staying here. The rooms are old and noisy, and being right on the main road doesn’t help. Check-in is at 3pm, later than the 2pm time I’ve seen elsewhere, and they wanted 20 ringgit for checking in just 50 minutes early.

The room smelled musty when I arrived, had some mould in a corner, and the decor was in poor shape. Still, I find the whole place’s worn-out Empire feel quite charming, and the staff are lovely. Parking and the central location almost justify the price on their own. My room was very modestly priced at £25 a night on booking.com. There’s no food at the hotel, but a breakfast bakery and restaurants are only five minutes down the road. If you’re on a budget and like shabby old-world charm in the middle of the city, you might enjoy it. Other reviewers have been critical, and they do have reasons.

The bed was very comfortable, and we still had a good stay despite some drawbacks. The location made it reasonably easy to get to food, sights, and other amenities. The building is older and needs refreshing. Our bathroom didn’t seem to have been cleaned before check-in, and there was a clearly used, damp bath towel hanging on the rail. The Wi-Fi was slow but worked. Road noise was significant, so we needed extra noise and earplugs to sleep well. It was a very reasonably priced hotel.
