Berjaya Penang Hotel

The junior suite had plenty of space, a huge comfortable bed for two adults and a child, and a lovely view. Breakfast was a basic spread, mostly Malay food. The hotel is near Gurney Plaza, though the old town sights like Armenian Street, Little India, and Esplanade are over 30 minutes away by car. We paid S$400 for three nights, which felt high for what we got. The entrance was frustrating: several steps up to the lobby, and bell service was often unavailable. With three bags, they offered to carry just one. Inside, the furnishings and TVs were dated, the sofa needed new upholstery, and housekeeping was poor. There was mold in the bathroom, and the shower’s 3-in-1 soap dispenser stayed empty the whole time. It’s an average hotel with tired rooms.

The rooms are roomy, and breakfast comes with a huge range of choices, so don’t skip it. Our bathroom looked dated, though the shower pressure was strong and all the toiletries we needed were there. qmarizzuam was the friendliest staff member we met, helping us feel welcome, looking after our luggage while we stepped out, and sharing suggestions.

The old stairs could be difficult for elderly guests, and I can see it may be hard to upgrade an old hotel like this. Apart from that, everything went smoothly. Mr qQamaruzzaman and Mr Sukri were professional, helpful, and always welcoming when we left or came back. They also let us check in early because a room was available, which was a big help after our early flight. Thanks to the team.

The team were caring and friendly, and the kids especially enjoyed breakfast. It’s recommended for vegetarians too. I attended a farewell dinner for our head of department at Penang GH in Berjaya Ball Room three days ago, and Pn Rafidah and her event staff loy,acun,Drafi,Hilmi did a wonderful job. The food was great and the event was well organised. They also arranged a clean, spacious family room for me, and the pool was clean. A recommended spot for family getaways and events.
