I came back to see the place, though I didn’t check in this time. I stayed here with my mom 12 years ago and had a good time. From outside, it still looked nice and well cared for. I couldn’t go inside.

A very worthwhile Penang stay, with a lovely view over the water and lots of good snacks nearby. The rooms are inexpensive for such a convenient spot and scenery. The toilets and showers are shared, but they’re clean and there are enough of them. There are tables in the lobby where it’s easy to meet other travelers, and the house manager was kind. The place sits over the sea, like the buildings along the seven bridges.
The owner was friendly and knew the area well, and we were able to check in around 9:30am, which was great. Inside, there are several shower rooms and an open-plan kitchen, all finished to a really high standard. Our room was lovely, and the WiFi was fast. I still can’t figure out how the price is so low. The property sits at the end of one of the jetties, right over the water. You can watch the tide come and go underneath, and we even fished from the veranda and caught a catfish. We arrived unsure what to expect and were completely blown away. It’s the best place I’ve stayed in all of Malaysia, a real hidden gem. I’ll definitely be back.
I went to Penang’s Clan Jetty with two friends from overseas in the afternoon, and it was blazing hot. The homes are built over the sea, so the sun really beats down there, but I didn’t mind. A few of the clan jetties welcomed us into their wooden houses. I got to ask how they stood over the water without sinking or collapsing. One local explained that the foundations use a special wood driven into the sea. The houses have also had renovations over the years. I’d reached Weld Quay by taking the free CAT bus from Lebh Chulai, where I was staying. From the bus terminal it was about a 10-minute walk east to the jetty. Clan Jetty is also a few minutes on foot from Weld Quay, which you can reach by free bus from Komtar. UNESCO has listed the clan jetties as a World Heritage site.
Lovely scenery, loads of food to choose from, and a nice place to relax. There are plenty of bars, and the people are so nice.
