1926 Heritage Hotel Penang By The Unlimited Collection

The breakfast changes from day to day, and there’s plenty of parking in a roomy, safe lot with an exit onto a small lane instead of the busy main road. Even though the hotel is beside the main road, my room was quiet. It’s an old building, but there was no unpleasant smell and the floor was so clean I couldn’t spot even a tiny hair. I liked wandering the long, warmly lit corridor, which has a bit of a haunted-house feel. The one thing that made me uncomfortable for a few seconds was the attitude of one worker at check-in. Still, it’s definitely worth staying here.

Breakfast options are limited, but the food is really good, and the staff provided good service. Our room was lovely, with a comfortable bed and a clean bathroom, and the price was reasonable. There’s parking on site, so no need to hunt for a spot. The old building is part of its charm. Walking to Penang’s famous landmarks may feel like a bit of a trek, but Grabcar makes getting around easy. The TV channels were really bad. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you visit Penang.

There’s no elevator, so if stairs are an issue, I’d suggest asking for a ground-floor room. Ours wasn’t very big, but it was good enough. We did have mosquitoes, so shut the windows at sundown and use the anti-mosquito mats provided. The hotel was quiet, which was nice, and breakfast was good. There’s a pool and plenty of parking if you’re driving. We enjoyed our stay.

The place is clean, but it’s drab and old, and really does look and feel like ‘heritage.’ The pillows were horrid, the basic home-style door locks didn’t inspire confidence, and the furniture needs work. Things were out of place and blocking each other, and there were no toiletries. There is a pool, but no lifeguard. I’d only suggest staying here if you’ve run out of other hotel options.
