Crystal Guesthouse is in a handy spot on Lebuh Chulia (English: Chulia Street), with tourist sights and hawker stalls nearby. The Chew and clan jetties, Chowrasta market, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, Peranakan Mansion, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and the Penang Rapid bus hub are all within walking distance. Google Maps makes it easy to plan a walk. If you’re visiting for the first time, Tim's guide has detailed reviews and Google Maps. Search Google for "penang travel tips". It helped me a lot. I stayed two days and one night, choosing the cheapest single room available, with a fan and two beds. My room faced the traffic, so it was a bit noisy, though you can close the windows. Shared bathrooms were CLEAN, with shower gel and toilet paper. It cost RM35 per day. For backpackers and tourists after a decent, cheap room, this is a really great budget stay. The auntie, aka the washer, is quite chatty :)
