The location made it easy to explore George Town on foot, with food markets, a mall, and local sights nearby. For a more authentic market stop, though, I’d skip Kimberly and Chulia and go to New World Park. Check-in was quick and welcoming, and our modern, well-kept room was ready within minutes. It was practical and comfortable: a firm bed with very soft pillows, a nicely tiled modern bathroom with great hot water, and a coffee bar with a fridge plus two free bottles of water each day. The lobby has a fun worn-in mid-century look, all aviation metal and leather. It almost makes you expect a 1960s Pan Am pilot to walk in for a drink.

Getting around was easy from here: the hotel is within walking distance of the bus station and the main sights. The rooms were decent, but several things fell short of what we expected from a four-star boutique hotel. There was a strong sewage smell in the bathroom, the toilet and sink weren’t practical, and the shower never got properly warm. The hotel was noisy, and the rooftop terrace didn’t match how it had been advertised. It was an okay stay, just below the comfort and quality we’d expected.

We had a really enjoyable stay at Le Dream Boutique Hotel. The made-to-order breakfast felt personal, even if there weren’t many choices, and our room was clean and comfortable after a day on foot. It was easy to reach the Penang street art and the busy Chinese food street with a short walk. Staff were courteous and always happy to help, and there’s also a Michelin-recognized restaurant in the hotel. A lovely base for exploring George Town.

Our room was on the small side, and the bed was hard. There was no breakfast offered, and the rooftop bar could use some attention. For breakfast, there’s a place two blocks away called Yins Sourdough, I think! Still, it’s a very nice little hotel in a great part of George Town. The sights and restaurants are all an easy walk away.

It’s a basic but perfectly fine place for a short stay, just a few minutes from the mall. Breakfast is served at the rooftop restaurant, though the choices are limited. A busy Chinese hawker street nearby gets going after 7 p.m. and has lots of local food. Little India is around a 10-15 minute walk, passing through Armenian Street, which is nice for sightseeing.
