The jacuzzi was being renovated, which was a letdown. The room itself was quiet at night, had strong air conditioning and Wi-Fi, and the smart TV let me watch Netflix. I liked the view across to The Southern Hotel and the colonial building, which seems to have kept much of its original structure. It's a really convenient spot, close to all the important places in Georgetown. One thing to know: the toilet is behind a fully transparent glass wall, with no curtain.

I had sleep disrupted on several nights by nearby live music coming through the windows. I reported it promptly. At first, I was given ear plugs, which didn't address what seemed to be a building noise problem. Staff followed up more carefully later and checked whether another room was available, but the alternatives had different noise risks. The music was extremely loud again on the third night. I ended up trying to block gaps around the window myself, though I could still hear it clearly. There were also basic cleanliness and maintenance problems in the room: mold in the shower, dust on the bedding and surfaces, and worn flooring. In a place with nighttime activity nearby, sound insulation, upkeep, and a clear way for staff to escalate complaints matter for guests' wellbeing. Addressing those areas would make a real difference. This review is about accommodation standards and guest wellbeing, not pricing or compensation.

The location is very central, though traffic can be loud. At this price, there are better hotels nearby. I booked two nights but left after the first, even though the manager offered an upgrade. When I explained my disappointment, she said it was a heritage hotel, not a 4- or 5-star property. Then the booking platforms shouldn't present it in a way that misleads people. The staff were polite and patient, but the operator should sort out basic living conditions before trying to attract holidaymakers with features like the tub and jacuzzi. I picked it after filtering Agoda for 4- and 5-star hotels in Georgetown. The photos looked decent, but the place disappointed as soon as we arrived. It looked modern at first, with a big bathtub, yet close up it was dirty and falling apart. The shower head wouldn't stay fixed, and at my height of 1.62cm I had to half-squat to wash my hair. Some furniture was rusty and dirty, parts of the sink had mold, the sheets were stained, the pillowcases were gross, and the pillows were lumpy. Floorboards were uneven and popping up. A hole in the window had been covered with cardboard. There was no lift, and the jacuzzi, apparently one of the attractions, had been out of service for a long time. I later saw a very similar review from a year earlier. Another year had passed, but the jacuzzi still didn't work and the faulty areas hadn't been fixed. If you're not fussy, it's liveable, but it definitely isn't a 4-star hotel as listed on Agoda.

The room was spacious, with a working fridge and a TV that had YouTube and Netflix. We had a balcony but didn't use it, and some of the flooring could do with repairs. It took a while to cool the room down, but after I told the front desk, they dealt with it quickly. There's no lift, though staff can carry your luggage upstairs if you ask. You can also request an iron. Everyone was kind and polite. It was a pretty nice stay overall.

We found the location handy for visiting tourist attractions. Check-in was simple, but the printer had run out of toner, and I declined when asked to photograph my passport for their database because of privacy concerns. There's also a heritage fee of RM2 per night at check-in, since the hotel is one of the UNESCO Heritage Site. The room was dusty and dirty, and the sheets were stained. We asked for hand soap, but the receptionist said they don't provide any. On the second night, around 10 pm, we reported a leaking sink. The receptionist was dismissive and unhelpful, didn't apologize or offer a fix, and asked, "what's stopping you from using the sink?" after we explained the problem. There was no offer to move us or say how long a fix might take, even though many rooms were empty. After housekeeping on our last night, we asked for a hand towel and were told they were out of stock. With so many vacant rooms, that was surprising. Given the amenities and the service attitude, I'd advise people to think twice before booking.
