Muntri Grove

The thoughtful extras made a difference, including complimentary ice cream, afternoon tea, and a 10% off voucher for Muntri Mews Cafe. The hotel doesn't serve breakfast, but that makes sense with so many good cafés and restaurants nearby. We had wonderful service from start to finish, at a real 5-star level, and I can't recommend Muntri Grove enough. It's close to major sights like the blue mansion. If you're staying in George Town, do yourself a favour and stay here. I can't wait to return to Penang after this experience.

The pool was a lovely bonus, just right for a quick dip, and the complimentary afternoon tea was a hit. It gave us a chance to talk with other guests and share our Penang experiences. Everyone else staying there was friendly too. My husband and I spent four nights here and were delighted with our charming, spotlessly clean room. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the hotel is well placed for seeing Penang's sights. Thank you to all!

There was a nearby bar with a band playing until about 1 a.m., I think. It didn't bother me much because the music wasn't very loud and felt like background noise. I even liked some of the English and Mandarin pop songs. I slept soundly. I stayed in a second-level room near the pool. Guests get complimentary ice cream and water. The grounds were beautifully kept with plants, and the decor, furnishings, and room scent gave the hotel a traditional Peranakan feel. The room was spacious and had what I needed, including a hot shower, kettle, toiletries, and traditional Penang white coffee. The Peranakan feel was distinctive and really well done. The staff were attentive and went out of their way to make things comfortable. The air conditioning wasn't cold enough on the first night, but after I mentioned it, they cleaned it and the room was cool on the nights after that. My stay at Muntri Grovr was splendid.

There was no breakfast, but honestly you can find better options by walking around Penang. Parking is limited, so keep that in mind if you're booking a car. I saw noise complaints about nearby clubs and live bands, but it sounded minimal and muffled to me. I slept fine, though everyone's experience differs, and a light sleeper might feel differently. The place was just right for my short Penang trip. The atmosphere felt classical without looking fake, and all the greenery made it welcoming. My spacious room was beautifully designed, and the lobby and the rest of the hotel's interior showed a lot of effort. It's set back from the street, so there's less traffic noise. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Martin at the front desk was a great help and even offered me an umbrella on a rainy day. The small pool was great for dipping in on a hot afternoon, and guests get complimentary drinks and ice cream. I had no mosquito complaints. It's also easy to walk to places to eat, drink, and hang out. Nothing else bad to report.
