Museum Hotel

I’d definitely stay here again when I’m back in Penang. The room was cozy, clean and well kept, with a comfortable soft bed and pillows. The toilet was clean too, and the shower had hot water and strong pressure. The heritage building is well maintained, and I liked the vintage furniture. The compound is small, but the narrow hallways have lovely little ornaments and traditional wall decor. I especially loved the old-fashioned window, which reminded me of my late grandmother’s kampung house.

I especially enjoyed the food, particularly the pie and the spring rolls, which looked delicious. The Hainanese Chicken Chop was cooked quite well and came in a big portion, though the price was noticeably higher than at the smaller food shops. The hotel itself is quite nice. The rooms were comfortable enough, if nothing special, and the service was decent. The staff did their job, and the location was fine.

The hotel feels high quality, from the decor to the fantastic staff. Our room looked lovely, the bed was very comfortable, and it was a nice touch to have two large glass bottles of water refilled each day. There’d clearly been a lot of thought put into the room’s design. I liked getting a proper metal key with a hefty fob instead of the usual hotel card. We left it at reception whenever we went out. The whole hotel was air-conditioned, and we spent relaxing evenings on the very nice roof terrace.

The staff at The Muse hotel reception were friendly and explained most things. Breakfast was included at the adjoining restaurant. The “Big Breakfast” was plenty of food, with eggs, three meats and sourdough bread. I’d recommend this for a couple. Our basic room was adequate for two, with a queen bed and plenty of pillows. There was lots of hot water in the shower, though the sink area could use more light. The spacious rooftop terrace has ample seating and was our nighttime refuge. There’s also elevator access.
