The Magazine Boutique Hotel

The hotel’s in a brilliant location, and I had a very good stay. The staff were kind and answered our transport questions, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was lovely. A couple of small suggestions: the balcony could use sun loungers instead of hard seats, and upstairs by the bed could use a lamp since there’s no switch up there to turn off the lights. Otherwise, excellent.

The night receptionist, who works part time and is Indian, shared lots of tips about food and attractions. I really appreciated the help. The rooms are cozy and comfy, the water pressure is strong, and the temperature is easy to adjust. Georgetown is easy to explore on foot, with malls opposite. I was surprised by how many charging ports there are, plus a water dispenser. Very thoughtful. One small thing, a light switch near the bed would make it easier to turn the lights off and on without going downstairs.

I wasn’t sure about staying here at first, but I ended up really liking the room. It was comfortable and super spacious for 2, and I think it could fit up to 4 with the sofa that turns into a bed. There’s a short staircase up to the bed, a hanging plant that adds a creative touch, and a cute mini refrigerator. Komtar Bus Station is within walking distance, and there’s a mall across the street.

On the morning of 13 May 2026, my wife called to ask whether rooms were available. She was told bookings had to be made online. When she politely asked if she could book through Agoda or the hotel’s own website, the reply was “yela semua online la semua online,” said rudely. She also asked about early check-in and was told, “boleh kalau u ok nak duduk bilik kotor belum kemas.” We found the sarcastic, disrespectful response unprofessional. We understand that early check-in may depend on availability or cost extra. That wasn’t the issue. It was the way a customer making a polite enquiry was spoken to. This wasn’t our first stay at The Magazine Boutique Hotel. The people we dealt with before were always polite and helpful, and we’d even been able to book smoothly over WhatsApp. We hope management looks into this and improves the customer service experience.
