Cute Hotel & Dorms Ipoh

The mixed dorm was super clean and had what I needed as a backpacker, including a towel and drinking water. Staff were outstanding, helping me find my way around Ipoh and pointing out good sightseeing spots. The shopping centre and waterfall are close, and the bus station is very near for arriving or leaving. Public buses also make it easy to get around town, and the staff are happy to answer questions. Highly recommend.

The bed was comfortable, towels were clean, and the TV, lights, and furniture all worked. The standard room had enough space, and the toilet was clean, though its damaged folding door took a few pulls to shut fully. Water heater pressure was adequate but on the low side. There was no hair dryer, so bring one. I had to ask for extra hangers. Parking at MBI was plentiful, just remember the hourly fee is 60 cents. Service was decent and friendly, and check-in and checkout went smoothly. They supplied two small water bottles, but there’s no housekeeping for longer stays. I wanted to give this place five stars, but sleeping was difficult both nights. The walls are thin, and noise from nearby rooms, loud music, laughter, and enthusiastic conversations carried through. I could also smell smoke. That left me tired each day, so it’s a high three stars for me.

Uncle Joe was the reason I had to write a review. He’s incredibly helpful and really wants guests to feel welcome. He even went out of his way to make sure I caught the right bus to Penang. The hostel is outside Old Town, but only a five-minute walk from the bus station. I highly recommend it for an overnight in Ipoh.

Mama Suru and Uncle Joe were already giving useful tips before I’d even had a night’s sleep here. They go out of their way with information about the area and the next leg of your trip, including advice you might not think to ask for. I’m looking forward to seeing the biggest sleeping Buddha in a cave tomorrow! The bunks are comfy, with thick blackout curtains and your own plug. There are plenty of washrooms and showers, plus towels and drinking water. Cheap, yummy food and great shopping are just a short walk away.
