We booked a junior suite at Manhattan Hotel for two nights and arrived at 3:30 PM, half an hour after the 3:00 PM check-in time listed on the hotel website. The room still wasn’t ready, and we waited in the lobby for almost two hours while housekeeping was reportedly still working on it. We’d booked well ahead, so this was extremely disappointing. Having rooms ready by the official check-in time should be standard. No staff came over with updates or an explanation. We had to keep going to the counter to ask, and the poor customer service left us feeling ignored. At 5pm we asked to cancel because we couldn’t wait any longer. Only then, to our surprise, were we told the room was actually under maintenance. They still couldn’t promise we’d get it that night. We couldn’t proceed with the cancellation, so we had to keep waiting and following up. At 7:15pm we called, since no one had informed us, and were told we could check in that night. From 3:15 to 7:15pm, all that time just to get our room. Games well played. We felt like fools in your game. It was an extremely unpleasant stay, and we won’t be back.

The location is really convenient, with plenty of food and shops nearby. My room was pleasant and quiet, unlike what other reviews say. Maybe that’s because mine faced the back. My main complaint was the man in charge of breakfast. He was very unpleasant and had lots of complaints about management. He spent 15 minutes telling me about them without ordering my food, so I had to wait even longer. He also asked me to include the complaint in my review so management would help him do his job better. Parking is another issue. There’s street parking, but the basement lot is extremely cramped, and its entrance slopes down at a strange angle that can scratch your undercarriage.

For RM350, our double queen room was comfortable for the night, and the water pressure was good. The hotel’s free parking is limited, but if those spaces are full, there are plenty of municipal parking spots around the hotel.

The bathroom was clean, and the room worked well for what we paid. It was also handy being near central Ipoh. My only real deduction is for the dim lighting. A smart TV would be a nice addition too.

The main problem was the noise outside at night. From about 11 p.m. until 4:30 a.m., mat rempits were racing right in front of the hotel, and I only got around two hours of sleep. You can even hear people talking in the street below, so the soundproofing needs work. I hope management considers improving it soon. Apart from that, everything about the hotel was fine.
