Sarang Paloh Heritage Stay & Event Hall

I liked being right in the middle of Old Town, with food and interesting walks in every direction. Lim Ko Pi cafe next door also gives guests 20% off, and I had an amazing Curry Mee there. The heritage building has been lovingly restored, and my room was clean, pretty, and nicely decorated. There was a kettle and tea set in the room, plus a shared downstairs area with filtered hot and cold water. Entry is by swipe access, which felt very safe. It was just right for my three nights in Ipoh traveling alone as a 61 year old Australian woman.

I was still a mess after a scooter accident the day before, and the young woman who checked me in was really caring. She arranged help with my luggage both on arrival and when I checked out, and even called my room a couple of times to see if I had water and food. It made me feel less alone. The room was beautiful, the air conditioning worked well, and the bed was comfortable. The neighborhood was pleasant, with restaurants and shops within walking distance. There's a little kitchen area with a water dispenser. I stayed from April 19 to 21, and would come back if I'm in Ipoh again.

The location is handy for Old Town Ipoh, and Grab rides to places like the Cave Temples are easy to get. Staff were lovely, and there always seemed to be someone at the desk to greet us. The online photos are realistic. I enjoyed Ipoh enough that I'd consider staying here again. It's a basic hotel, and the stairs are part of the deal. There's a small step into the room, about .75 inch or 2 centimeter, and no bell hops. We knew about the steps beforehand. Guests can use a small kitchen and refill water at its dispenser. My main gripe was that the internet allowed only two devices. We couldn't connect a home phone as a third one, though perhaps staff could have helped if we'd asked.

Sharon, the desk manager, gave us plenty of helpful information for making the most of our short visit. Even the evening “Jagar” was friendly and helpful, and the staff had a close, family-like feel that made us feel at home. We stayed one night in this charming, quaint hotel in a convenient Old Town spot. The room was very clean and the beds were firm and comfortable. We'd definitely stay here again.
