Akademik Suites

Akademik Suite in Taman Mount Austin was a wonderful base. Austin Heights and nearby malls are convenient to visit, and there are lots of restaurants, cafés, convenience stores and attractions within walking distance.

I rented here for about a year and won't renew. On two occasions, expensive shoes left outside my unit were stolen despite the grill at the entrance. I came home after CNY and found my Skechers missing. There are lots of Airbnbs on my floor, with different people around during CNY week. When I asked management, they weren't helpful and told me to make a police report over a couple of shoes, as if I had nothing else to do. Avoid renting here if you can. The elevators sometimes smell of cigarette smoke, and smoke from a next-door neighbor can come into your home through the toilet. Cleaning staff sometimes take a large, horrible-smelling dustbin in the resident lift, making the whole elevator stink while you're inside. The guards, though, are nice, professional and helpful when problems come up. The apartment needs to train staff to handle issues better.

I wouldn't recommend renting here. The elevator still hasn't been fixed, though it broke a week before Chinese New Year, and every morning I have to wait ages to get to work. The house is very damp too, and my eczema hasn't improved for months.

That tight car park was a nightmare for me. Watch out for scratches.
