Breakfast deserves a mention, the buffet includes local and Western choices. The place is simple and minimalist, but clean and comfortable, and the location is convenient. Morning sunlight comes into the small room and brightens it nicely. There’s an ironing board on every floor, which is handy. My main issue as a business traveller was the lack of a wardrobe and not enough clothes hangers in the room. It was also nice and quiet.

For the price, this hotel was better than I expected. Getting checked in was quick, and the room floors require a security card in the lift. The rooms were clean, the air conditioning didn’t rattle, and the toilet heater worked. The walls are a bit thin, though, so you can hear people slamming doors. Breakfast was basic Malaysian food, mainly fried rice and noodles. Komtar is right across the street, which made it easy to bring shopping bags back after a long day. A decent option for a weekend away, with a good location.

This is a no-frills hotel, basically a bed and a bathroom, so keep your expectations low and you may enjoy your KB stay. The location is convenient, within walking distance of the Singapore-Malaysia customs area, with malls and places to eat all around.

I may have expected too much. For an economical hotel, one star feels a little harsh, especially compared with higher-priced places, but I paid for a night in a family room booked directly with the hotel and found it a bit small. It was marked non-smoking, yet cigarette smell reached the room from the lift area. The pillows were huge and hard on my neck. After using them for an hour, I could end up with a stiff neck for a day or two. Breakfast wasn’t worth getting up early for. Better left at that.
