We stopped at the Perlis branch for one night on our road trip to Hatyai. Hotel Seri Malaysia has been around since the 1990s and has seen better days, though this branch seemed fairly well maintained. It’s said to have had a major refurbishment in 2022, but some things still look dated, especially the curtains, which bring down the room’s appearance and could use an upgrade. We asked at check-in about leaving very early in the morning and were told it’d be fine because reception runs 24 hours. When we were ready to go, we rang the bell several times and nobody came out, so we left the room keys on the counter and departed. We ate at Restoran Seri Inai because many other restaurants were closed for Aidiladha. The food was average and the prices slightly above average. I suspected the cucur udang was made from an instant flour mix instead of from scratch, which was a bit disappointing for a Seri Malaysia establishment. Even with those issues, it did the job as a convenient stop on our journey. More consistent service and updated rooms could make for a much better stay.

We booked two rooms, one standard and one family room, for our family with three kids, and they granted my request for connecting rooms. The rooms were simply great, with appliances and equipment that worked. I also loved the atmosphere, surrounded by nature and looking out over bukit cenderawasih.

The location caused a problem. Apple Maps and Google showed different places through the Booking.com interface, and the actual spot matched Google. It’s nearly 4 km from the centre, not the 700 m stated on the booking site. Since we arrived during Ramadan, there was no catering on site and no food outlets within a convenient distance. I respect the hotel’s right to observe Ramadan, but please mention this on the booking site so guests can make an informed choice.

I got stuck when trying to continue my journey and ended up spending three nights at this friendly hotel as a last resort. The staff were a huge help, especially Faizah Aziz. Thanks to her, I made it back to Kuala Lumpur and then on to Switzerland without a hitch. My parents and I are so grateful to her. Warm regards from Switzerland.

The room was dusty, and the air conditioning in our family room stayed faulty even after I called reception. They said it was fixed, but nothing changed, so my two toddlers and I spent the night in a hot room. This wasn't my first stay here either. The big pool is a plus, but I’d avoid the hotel if possible.
