Marjan Hotel

We stayed two nights in a standard deluxe room, and this was my second visit. The hotel held an open house for Raya on our last day, with good food and warm hospitality. It was convenient and affordable, and the service was great 👍👍👍. It’s a simple two-star place with small, tidy rooms, comfortable beds, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, a desk, and a private shower bathroom. Towels, basic toiletries, and charging sockets are provided. There’s a straightforward lobby and reception that’s usually open 24 hours, plus a water dispenser. The facilities are limited but practical. The location is handy, with eateries, banks and ATMs, and convenience shops all within walking distance. A good budget option if you just need the basics in a convenient spot.

We had family matters in Chukai, so I looked for a small hotel and walked in at 12:30 am. We got a small twin room without a window for RM89, the front desk price advertised for a superior room. This room wasn’t superior and should have cost RM69. There’s no lift. It’s close to restaurants, shops, and food stalls, and Hai Peng Kopitiam is an easy walk away. The bedsheet was dirty and a bit smelly. The coil mattress didn’t hurt my back, thankfully. The air conditioning and water heater worked well. The bathroom was clean, but it flooded because of poor construction.

The location is the one good thing, since it’s near the small pekan. The room was dirty, though. There was an empty instant cup noodle in the bathroom bin, a dirty bedsheet, and hair all over the floor, which made it seem like they hadn’t cleaned properly before we arrived. The hotel says it has a non-smoking area, but guests still smoked in their rooms and the smell got into ours. I reported it to reception, but they didn’t help. One receptionist was extremely arrogant and only offered spray to reduce the smell. For a low-budget hotel, the least they could do is keep the room clean. I wouldn’t recommend it. Spend your money elsewhere if you want better quality.
