Borneo Beach Villa & Suite

We had a very disappointing stay in two units. The 2 Bedroom Pool Villa was extremely old and clearly poorly maintained, with a worn, neglected feel. The pillows were yellow and looked unhygienic, and water was leaking from the ceiling inside the house. For a property advertised as a villa, that’s unacceptable. It felt dirty and far from what the photos showed. Serious renovation and upkeep are needed, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The 1 Bedroom Suite Sea View was even worse. It felt very old and neglected, and the strong musty smell was almost unbearable. Being in the room made us feel nauseous. The pillows and bedsheets had visible yellow stains, so the place felt very unhygienic. Its worn condition was far from what the listing suggested. We checked out early in the morning because we couldn’t tolerate the smell and condition any longer. At this price, a 3-star hotel would have been a much better choice. The property needs proper maintenance and renovation before charging these rates.

The villa itself was nice, though the furniture was quite dated and the lawns weren’t very well kept. The grounds weren’t private, either, with people freely walking through. For an expensive one-night stay in villa 142, the self-contained setup was missing a lot. The kitchen had no mixing bowls, strainers, tea towels, or dish drainer. There was one small pot and one frying pan, plus a stock pot with a lid missing its handle. The only knife was heavy and blunt. The bathroom had no hand towels, just bath and pool towels. The internet was practically nonexistent. Charging top dollar for that was a rip-off. Three-star accommodation should cost like three-star accommodation. I definitely wouldn’t go back.

Villa 113 was a wreck during our 3D2N stay. The TV didn’t work when we arrived. I complained, but the maintenance guy only came the next day, day two, at 9:30 a.m. He listened to my verbal complaint, said “sekejap ah,” and left. A different guy returned at 4:30 p.m. and fixed it. One curtain was open while the other was closed, then the open curtain fell by itself. That only got fixed the following day. The pool was filthy, with so many dry leaves and dried grass that you could easily scoop them out by hand. Housekeeping came on day two and looked surprised, but nothing got fixed. The kitchen sink was broken and leaked, leaving the floor like a pool whenever we used it. The biggest issue for me was the water pressure. I’ve been here twice, and it still hasn’t been fixed. When one tap is running, the other won’t work, and the running one is slower than the Coway water filter. The pressure is so low you can’t wash anything, so you mostly have to depend on the pool. This place is the worst, badly maintained and useless. The owner should quit the business.

What was meant to be a family birthday celebration turned into a nightmare from the moment we reached the security gate. We were told our booked villa wasn’t available and weren’t allowed in, even though we had the payment receipt. After nearly an hour of back and forth, our bag of ice had melted. We were eventually let in, but met with rude staff and no proper place to stay for the night. We had babies with us and they simply didn’t care. We’d paid on September 9, a month earlier, but by October 3 no one had texted or emailed to say the room was unavailable. We paid, didn’t we? After more back and forth, they gave us a two-room villa, a downgrade from the three-room beachfront villa we’d booked. It was dirty, sandy, full of trash, and even had maggots. Clearly a last-minute backup. Over the phone, they had the nerve to say it must have been my fault for “randomly touching the Agoda app” and supposedly causing the downgrade. Seriously? We made do since it was a celebration, but next time I’d choose Bonheur at Karambunai for a family gathering. If you’re planning to spend over RM250++ to RM1200++ here, it isn’t worth it. Trust me, you’re better off somewhere else.
