Holiday View Inn Taman Negara

We stayed for two nights. We arrived before check-in and were able to leave our backpacks with reception. Our room was a middle unit without a river view, but it had a passageway where we could sit outside. It was clean, and the air conditioning worked fine. It felt a bit weak during the day but kept the room cool enough at night. The beds were a little saggy, though still comfortable. There was a power outage late on the first night that affected the whole town for a few hours. Electricity came back a few hours after midnight. Hotel staff returned to hand out small lamps to each room, which gave us some light.

You’re only a couple of minutes’ walk from the river crossing, with the jungle close by too. Our room had a lovely river view, and both the room and service were good. The Wi-Fi worked really well. I’d recommend staying here.

Room 6 had a great view from its balcony, and for £17 a night the location felt like very good value. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well. We also appreciated the filtered water machine, with cold water and hot water for tea or coffee. Some supplies were provided, though we used our own tea bags and coffee. Wi-Fi was very good in our room, and we didn’t have any power cuts there. The mosque nearby uses a PA system, so we woke for prayer each day. It didn’t really bother us. The hotel cat’s eight-week-old kittens were adorable, and the rabbits and chickens nearby added to the charm.

The lodge staff were really friendly and tried to help with things like thin sheets and a Malay electric connector. They were also happy to answer our questions. There’s free drinking water, hot and cold, which is great for cutting down on plastic bottles. Check-in and check-out were easy, and the view was good. We tried two rooms because of availability. Room 2 had an even floor, a nice hot shower, colourful bathroom walls, and plenty of space to hang wet clothes and towels. It was large enough for four and had a table outside. We had a lovely stay there, so that room gets five stars from me. Room 3 was for two, but the floor sloped enough that it felt like my legs were higher than my head. I switched my pillow to the other end of the bed, but my husband still couldn’t sleep. There also wasn’t anywhere to hang clothes to dry. I’d give that room three stars.
