Borneo Suites Hotel

The room cleanliness was a real letdown. There was hair on the bedsheets, and that should be a basic thing for a hotel to get right. Getting to the room also meant using the stairs, since there’s no lift, which was awkward with luggage or for anyone travelling with an older person. A female member of the front desk staff was rude and very sarcastic, which made the stay even more unpleasant. I wouldn’t recommend this place, and I won’t return.

The main thing I look for in a hotel is private parking for guests, and this one has it. It was good value for money, and being on the first floor meant the lack of a lift didn’t bother us much. Still, we noticed a cigarette smell as soon as we entered the room, even though I don’t smoke.

The room itself was clean, though the toilet felt a bit claustrophobic. Getting to the third floor with heavy bags is another matter, since there’s no lift. They didn’t provide toothbrushes or even 3-in-1 coffee. I booked online through Booking,com because I needed an affordable place for the kids during a long drive to Menumbok. The listing promised two queen beds, but we got a small room with two singles. At the counter, they rudely blamed Booking,com for the wrong information. If the hotel doesn’t keep its online offers accurate, management has to take responsibility. For the price, I wouldn’t recommend it. Other budget hotels in a similar range are much better value.

I came back after a few years and noticed quite a few changes, including to the service and facilities. It could work for someone looking for a budget hotel, but there are fewer basic facilities now.
