Century has been my choice for many trips, around 45 nights in total. The rooms are quiet and spacious, with a king bed, flat-screen TV, kettle, fridge, coffee, sugar, water and hair dryer included. Showers are hot, and the staff are good. Wi-Fi is weak in the room, though it does work. The cafe has simple, decent food if you don't feel like walking out for breakfast. At 100 RM a night, about £18, I find it better value than places charging 145 RM, like Citytel and Best Western. Valley Hotel is 78 RM, but the rooms there are tiny and the bed very hard. KFC and Mary Browns are two minutes away, the taxi stand and bus station are a three to four minute walk, 7/11 is three minutes, and Jungle View and the city centre are five to ten minutes away. Hard to ask for much more at that price.

The staff are incredibly accommodating and will help with pretty much anything. The air-conditioning is good, and Wi-Fi is available around the clock. TV channel choice is limited, but that's fine when you're out exploring. The price is good for a hotel close to many of the main sights on a Kota Kinabalu city tour.

The location is the one real plus: you can walk to the Filipino market and Gaya Sunday market. My room smelled of cigarette smoke, though, and the bathroom needs a lot of work, including a new shower curtain. There was no hot water at all, and the toiletries were pretty pathetic, just two tubes of body shampoo.
