Hotel Holiday Park by OYO Rooms

The location worked well for me, about five minutes from Lido and roughly 15 minutes from the city, but the Penampang highway beside it made the place noisy, especially at night. Inside, the stay was pleasant enough, though the room smelled noticeably of cigarettes. There were no blankets set out when I checked in, so I had to ask for one. The bathroom floor felt slimy, and the water heater went from very hot for a few minutes to completely cold. Drinks in the fridge aren't free, and the markup is very high, payable at the counter when you check out. The air conditioning was fine and the hair dryer was good. There were dogs in the lobby, which didn't seem hygienic.

The room was in poor shape: dusty floor, old beds where I could feel the springs, a broken lock that wouldn't let me secure the door from outside, and torn curtains. The AC barely worked, even set to 16; it felt like a fan. When I complained, the front desk woman frowned and sent a cleaner to check. The cleaner insisted it was cold, though I told her that a working unit at 16 would be too cold to stand without a jacket. They said there were no other rooms, and when I asked for a refund, I was told to contact OYO online. OYO said the refund would be processed within a week after they got back to me within four days. A week passed with nothing. I called again two days ago, and customer service said the case was pending and asked me to wait. I pushed back, and they said they'd mark it as a priority and contact me within 24 hours. Still nothing. It feels like they'll keep delaying and ignoring you until you give up. Please don't waste your money here. There are other three-star hotels at this price that look much more luxurious.

For a cheap budget stay, the basics are there, and the air conditioning works pretty well despite the place looking worn. The view is really good. Just know there's no Wi-Fi in the rooms, only in the lobby, and no mini fridge. You can buy cold drinks at the first-floor counter. The place is a bit run down, but still livable.

The front desk was rude and disrespectful, and the rooms were old, smelly and apparently not cleaned. I could feel grit underfoot, like walking on the sand at tanjung aru sand beach. They gave us an ironing board with no iron and no hair dryer. When I asked at reception, the rude staff member said each room had one, but they were all broken. There wasn't a single iron or dryer to borrow at the counter. They charge the usual nightly rate but can't provide basic items. The phone in the room was broken too, and the broken window wouldn't close out the noise. So many basic things were out of order, it was enough to drive you mad. Good luck to anyone who booked here.
