The Magellan Sutera Resort

The bed was comfortable, the pool was nice, and the view was beautiful. Breakfast service was good too. Still, our stay at Magellan was a letdown given its reputation as a luxury resort. The rooms look worn, and the amenities felt very basic, with no cotton pads, shaver, or comb. We got no towels after housekeeping cleaned, and the tea supplies and slippers weren’t replaced. On the second night, we put out the make-up-room sign, but came back to an untouched room. We never got a bath mat either, so the floor stayed wet, dirty, and slippery. There was nobody out front to welcome us or help with our luggage. At reception, staff didn’t explain the hotel Wi-Fi password or how to get to our room.

The pool is huge and great for kids, and the hotel is near both the city and the airport. It’s one of the best hotels in KK. The beach here is small, though, so Pacific may suit you better if you want a bigger stretch of beach. One note: GrabFood deliveries aren’t allowed at the hotel, but you can take a Grab to well-known restaurants in the city centre.

We had a fantastic stay, and my son had a great time. The pool is very kid-friendly, and there’s a playroom plus plenty of activities you can book at the resort. Our room was spacious and had good amenities. I just wish the TV were bigger, since that’s pretty standard nowadays. The internet speed tested at 5 Mbps, and the main thing missing for us was a good beach. If that’s what you’re after, this isn’t the place.

We liked it so much within the resort that we didn’t feel like going out. There’s lots to do, including pickleball, movie showings, bowling, cycling, and activities for kids. Some things are free, and others cost very little. The grounds also bring in elements of nature, and there are three pools. Our room was spacious, the food was good, and tea time is served in addition to the usual breakfast. I’m already planning another trip here.
