I stayed at a Jesselton Hotel twice on my recent trip to Sabah. My first night was the Saturday I arrived in KK. I spent around an hour looking for street parking around Jalan Gaya, then gave up and used a nearby multi-storey car park. It's a busy tourist area, and there's a weekend market, so parking can be a problem. On the plus side, the hotel is within walking distance of the market, waterfront, and shopping complexes. The first room was a Deluxe, decent but not especially clean or well maintained. The second time I stayed in the Suite, which was luxurious, with a huge room and bathroom. A staircase led up to the rooftop, though it's no longer in use. It's decorated nicely with flowers and lights and is very Instagrammable. I'd recommend the Suite if it's available.

The staff were kind and looked after my things after I checked out. My flight wasn't until later in the evening, so I left some belongings at reception while I went around the city, and I was grateful they kept them safe. The hotel is in a prime spot with malls, restaurants, and other places within walking distance. It's decorated in an old colonial style. The interior feels a little outdated, but it's clean and well maintained.

We picked this hotel on famous Gaya Street so we could easily get to the morning and night markets. The market itself was great, but the street in front of the hotel was being repaired or perhaps renovated for it during our stay. The staff weren't friendly enough to let us know about that. Aside from the markets, the location wasn't so convenient for other things.

The facilities feel outdated, and the shower drain was very slow. I also wish someone had told me at check-in not to park in front of the hotel at night to leave space for the night market. DBKK fined me RM100. Parking is difficult on weekends. The hotel is right on Gaya Street, within walking distance of eateries, shops, Suria Sabah, and Todak.

This is a historical hotel with cosy rooms kept in a well preserved old style. The staff are excellent. Back in the late 1990s, someone apparently made this hotel their sanctuary for months. 🙃
