1000 Miles

I felt safe as a solo female traveler, thanks to the 24/7 reception, the door lock, and the area. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially Sam, and the beds were comfortable with everything very clean. The location worked great for me, with lots of places within a 10 minute walk and plenty of good food and coffee even closer. I’d definitely stay again.

For KL Festival week, this was a convenient base for wandering the older parts of Kuala Lumpur. Godown Arts Centre, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Pasar Seni, and downtown’s older streets were all a short walk away. Stepping outside meant layers of city life, from aging shophouse fronts and multilingual signs to old coffee shops beside newly curated cafés, with tourists, office workers, and longtime residents crossing paths. Ming Lok and Timothy are directly opposite, both worth visiting for their atmosphere as much as the food and coffee. Timothy has a quiet, nostalgic feel, with weathered signage, exposed brick, vintage photographs, patterned inserts, and that slightly melancholy heritage café look KL does well. Ming Lok is younger and more mural focused, but still feels connected to the street. The rooftop looks out to KL Tower and the skyline, where the old city and the vertical metropolis seem to be negotiating for space. The room at 1000 Miles Hotel was tiny, simple, and no frills. Festival travel doesn’t always need luxury, just a handy spot, walkable streets, decent coffee, and enough city texture to keep your mind wandering between programmes.

The location was the best part: Masjid Jamek LRT station is five minutes away, and fast food and cafes are even closer. Recommended restaurants were within a 20 minute walk. I stayed alone for four nights in Apr, and the room was clean and tidy, with a minimalist setup covering the basics for getting up and about. Sam had arranged a room away from the main street, though nighttime traffic noise can still be a concern. If you want to experience the city as it is, that may be part of what you accept. At check-in, Sam greeted me warmly and spoke clearly and calmly, so arriving somewhere new never felt uncertain. I also had warm conversations with her, her son, and the staff throughout my stay. The lobby could use a little better air circulation. Nice stay, keep up the good work!

There are great coffee shops and restaurants on the same road, and the location is handy if you want to explore KL on foot. The hotel staff were friendly and chatty, with someone approachable at the desk, which I believe was staffed 24/7. They also left drinking water and coffee out for guests. Our room was pretty small. I’ve stayed in much bigger rooms for less, but compared with other hotels nearby this was good value. With both my boyfriend’s and my suitcases open, there was hardly any room left, but we managed. The bed was a bit uncomfortable because I could feel the springs, though I still fell asleep. There’s quite a bit of outside noise, so earplugs are a good idea. They don’t clean the room daily or replace towels automatically, as part of their effort to be more eco friendly. We got fresh towels halfway through our stay without any problem, and I’m sure they’d empty the bins if asked. We tried taking Grabs and taxis to the Towers area, but KL traffic was so bad that walking, about 35-40 minutes, seemed just as practical. If you’re able bodied, I’d walk or take public transport or the train. I’d recommend staying here.
