The location is good, and some of the staff were friendly. The price is low, but the basics weren’t there for me: a secure room with air circulation and hot water. There were no windows, and the fans above the doors and on the ceiling, meant to move cooler air into the rooms, weren’t working. Rooms also didn’t lock, as far as I could tell. We paid for a double bed and got a bunk instead. Maybe the room was changed before we got the keys because we’re two men, though I can’t say for sure; I wondered if it might have been homophobia in a Muslim country. You have to take your shoes off to enter, which felt odd for a backpackers and gave the place a bit of a hostel-and-mosque feel. The bathroom was pretty unacceptable: one shower had hot water one night, but its door didn’t lock and the hose was broken. The next night neither shower had hot water, and the toilet never had paper.
