Hotel Uptown Chinatown

The location is a big plus, with street food, cafes, and restaurants close by, and the metro and walkable attractions are easy to reach. The air conditioner worked perfectly, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the WiFi was reliable throughout our stay. There were plenty of outlets compatible with EU, UK, and AU plugs. The room wasn't especially spacious, but it didn't feel small, and the bathroom was surprisingly large, with extra-hot water and strong shower pressure. Since the rooms are underground, there was no phone coverage inside. Hotel Uptown Chinatown is good value for budget travelers. The rooms have no windows, but that also meant no street noise and a quiet night's sleep. The self-check-in machine worked. We were lucky the manager was there to help, though, because checkout was troublesome: the system didn't recognize the key card and kept our deposit in the machine. Cleanliness was generally fine, but on our first night we found a used condom on top of the soap dispenser when we took our first shower. Housekeeping had clearly missed it, possibly because it was outside their line of sight. It may have been an unfortunate oversight, but the cleaning routine needs more attention to prevent this happening again. Even with that bad incident, we had a good stay for the price and location. We'd choose this hotel as our base again if we return to KL, though cleaning needs to be more thorough for stays to be consistently pleasant.
