Old Penang Hotel Ampang Point

The bed was extremely comfortable, though it made my sensitive skin very itchy. My partner slept well while I kept scratching. The bathroom was small but convenient and very clean, and the water heater worked properly. They also left tea and coffee sachets, sugar, creamer and a kettle in the room. The TV had basic channels, although even the preview picture wasn’t clear. The location is handy, with many restaurants nearby, including a delicious Chicken Kebab on the ground floor. Receptionists did a great job. Doors and electricity use card access. Parking is hard to find during the day, though there are more spaces at night. It got a little noisy around midnight because some people were loudly jamming near the hotel. For a one-night stay, it should be okay.

The location is good for shops, and it’s reasonably clean, with a friendly reception. There’s no lift, just stairs. The toilet covers are worn, and there’s a stained cushion chair in the room. A couple of shelves in each room and attention to those small fixes would make the place much better.

Good value for money, clean, friendly, and close to food and shopping. But there’s a heavy rock training centre next door, and they start playing guitar and drums at midnight, going on until morning. We couldn’t sleep. When we asked reception to speak to them, we were told the rockers had links to local gangsters and it was safer to keep quiet. I was surprised Malaysia was like this.

The car park is the hardest part, but otherwise it was fine. There’s an Arab Cuisine downstairs with really nice food at fair prices.
