OYO 89717 Budget Star Hotel

The noise made it hard to sleep. Even though my room was closer to the center of the hotel, I could hear music from outside all night. It seemed to be coming from the hallway windows, which maybe they could make more soundproof. At $14 a night, I could put up with a dirty hotel if I could at least get some sleep. But the room was dirty too. I had to wait until 2pm to check in, yet the overflowing trash can was already there when I arrived. I asked twice for someone to clean, and nobody came. The sheets, towel, and blanket hadn’t been washed, the blanket smelled, and the sheet had stains. There were cigarettes in the ashtray as well. I checked out early because the hotel was so awful, but they still charged me for every night I didn’t stay. OYO replied to this review, so I contacted them. They did absolutely nothing to solve the problem, stopped responding halfway through, and ignored my follow-up. At the very least, they could have refunded the nights I wasn’t there.

The room was dirty and smelled bad. The bedsheet had stains, the floor felt a bit oily, and the towel and blanket were dirty and smelly too. This budget hotel was not worth almost RM100 a night. I’d already booked and paid online, but when I arrived I had to pay more. The old receptionist initially said I could collect the deposit at checkout, then told me there was no deposit to collect. I was late for work, so I didn’t argue and just checked out. The receptionist was unfriendly and hard to understand. I’ll never stay at this place again. It doesn’t deserve a star.

Cockroaches were all over the room, and the bed had ticks. The hotel was terribly unclean, and Bahagian Kesihatan DBKL should take immediate action to shut it temporarily. The old men at the reception counter on the day shift were very rude. One man with spectacles chased a long-stay customer away to another hotel, but when asked to return the balance, they weren’t willing to do so.

The location is handy, right by the LRT, with a 24-hour convenience store and breakfast options nearby. Reception service was generally okay. For the very low price, it can be a good deal if you only need somewhere to sleep for 1-2 days, especially as a backpacker or solo traveler. The rooms aren’t well maintained. The aircon was dusty, the toilets were wet and had old showerheads, and there were cobwebs on the ceiling and insects outside the room. I noticed a slight cigarette smell on entering. The hot water dispenser didn’t work either. There’s a karaoke/bar next door, with singing and other noise audible late into the night, around 12 or 1am. Don’t expect much comfort or luxury. For a comfortable holiday, look elsewhere.
