The bathroom was wet and not clean, and my slippers were used and damaged by someone else. Some guests seemed to treat the hostel like a private space, including sleeping by the entrance with their legs spread and no underwear, which was unpleasant to come back to. I spent four nights there. The upper bunk was hard and painful to climb into, and its only blanket smelled bad. I had mentioned beforehand that I needed a lower bunk and thought I would be moved, but was told there was no space. Travelers also seemed to be separated by race and nationality.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but I never felt comfortable here. The walls seemed paper thin and it was very noisy; the beds weren't good either. Even after traveling for more than 16 hours and feeling exhausted, I couldn't sleep. There were cockroaches too. This place isn't what it claims to be, and I definitely wouldn't recommend staying here.
My iPhone 14 Pro Max was stolen from inside my room. Two men I didn't know who had been staying in the same room left early that morning, and the owner let them go even after I reported the theft. Management didn't cooperate or take prompt steps to check CCTV or confirm who the guests were. I had to file a report at the police station myself, and the hostel offered no support through the process. Safety should be a priority for travelers, but I found the security and management here completely inadequate. I do not recommend this hostel, especially for anyone traveling alone.
Ever been woken by bed bugs at 4 a.m.? If you want to find out, stay here. The staff's response was harsh and there was no solution offered, just stay or leave.
I stayed about three weeks, and for me this is the best hostel in KL. The owner was kind, honest, and helpful. The clean enough rooms have bunk beds in four or six bed dorms, and having a kitchen and fridge was a real bonus for cooking. Supermarkets, restaurants, and pharmacies are all within walking distance. Guests can also use the pool and park in a separate building for free. It's a little outside the city center, which I liked because there were fewer passersby, and the subway station nearby makes getting downtown easy. The Wi-Fi sometimes got patchy at night, and shower pressure was a bit weak, but neither was a major problem for me. I'll definitely stay at MonkeyMansion again on my next trip to KL. Thanks to the owner Mrs. Del and her great husband! 😁❤️
