Santa Grand Hotel Central Market

Mohammed Ismail left a lovely birthday arrangement in my room, which completely surprised me. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and his service throughout our stay was excellent. We’ve been staying at the Santa Grand Classic around the start of Chinese New Year and Ramadan, and the staff and management have taken such good care of us. They really try to make everyone feel welcome and are there with information when you need it. The CNY dragon dance they arranged for guests was wonderful to watch. The rooms are compact but have the amenities you need. It’s a lovely location for getting around, with food stalls and cute little stalls right outside. The rooftop pool is small but a lovely space. There’s also a floor set aside for breakfast, though we didn’t use that service. It’s not overpriced, and works well as a place to rest, about a 10-15 minute taxi ride from most landmarks in K.L. We’re coming back for the last few days of our holiday.

Most of the staff were pleasant, and breakfast was okay, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The room we got felt cramped, with little space to move or fit our suitcases, and there were no drawers or closet. The description had made it sound larger. The pool was very small too. When I asked the receptionist about another room, I was told they were all the same size, so they couldn’t offer anything better.

The iron was so poor it didn’t get the wrinkles out of my clothes, and then it burned them. Since I was here for a work trip and needed to iron, I hope management replaces it with a better quality one. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay. The staff were helpful and friendly, the room was clean, cozy, and comfortable, and the price was reasonable. The location is excellent, right next to CM.

There’s a self-service laundry about 400 meters away, where washing and drying cost around RM16. Jalan Petaling Street is an easy walk too, and there are plenty of restaurants and food stalls nearby. The hotel sits beside Central Market, close to major attractions in central Kuala Lumpur, but it still feels quiet and peaceful. Highly recommended.
