TAMU Hotel & Suites Kuala Lumpur

We took a Grab to see a movie at Suria KLCC, which was easy to book and a short ride away. The hotel’s location is really convenient. Breakfast was just okay, and I expected more based on the reviews, though it was enjoyable and perfectly edible. The Tamu team made us feel welcome for my mother’s 60th birthday and retirement, like a home away from home. Our clean suite was on the 39th floor, with an incredible view of the twin towers, KL tower and the 118 tower. The air conditioning was already on, and there was a little cake surprise waiting for us. I did wonder how long it had been sitting there, lol, but it tasted very good. Incredible staycation! 😍

I won’t stay here again. Even though I was on Level 26, the mosque was so loud it felt like my room was right beside it on the ground floor. If noise bothers you or you want a quiet place, that could really affect your stay. For me, any accommodation near a mosque gets zero stars for location. The rest was decent enough: acceptable food, a comfortable bed, and a gym with a good selection of equipment, which I appreciated. But the plates, bowls and cups weren’t clean, which was disappointing.

Kampung Baru is a handy base, with local eateries close by and KL attractions within walking distance. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The pool and gym are welcome extras, and there are several places to eat in the hotel, from the lobby café’s local comfort food to the more elevated rooftop and sky lounge restaurants. Tamu Hotel & Suites is comfortable and good value for a leisure or business stay, especially if you like city views and easy access to local food.

The repeated traffic across our roof caused the ceiling to sink and damaged our house. During the skydiving event on FT Day this year, one skydiver fell onto our roof next door to the hotel. People kept coming through our house and climbing onto the roof via the ceiling. The hotel didn’t even have a ladder, so we had to provide one for the skydiving team. The maintenance head arrived only after half an hour to assess things, and the crisis response was awful. I don’t know whether they had a permit for the event. I contacted the owner and got no response. The maintenance head said he was out of town, which felt like pretending, and still hasn’t replied. We just want them to accept responsibility for what caused the damage and respond professionally. Their professionalism is now questionable.
