Travelodge Kuala Lumpur City Centre

The room is compact, but the city view is nice. There are cute cafes, tourist spots and a few convenience stores just across the street. Great location, especially if you’re travelling solo.

The room is basic and on the small side, including the toilet, but it has a refrigerator and hairdryer, which were useful. The big draw is the location: Central Market Kuala Lumpur is right across the way, and Dataran Merdeka and Petaling Street are walkable. A simple place that works well if exploring the city is your priority.

I paid $40 a night for a superior queen room with a city view, so it felt like you get what you pay for. The location is amazing, right by Chinatown, Petaling Street and a railway station with links to KL Sentral, KLCC and Bukit Bintang. Nights were pretty quiet, and the mattress was good, though the pillow was hard. The shower had great temperature and pressure. There were a lot of ants in the room. Housekeeping only comes if you request it, and they won’t replace the water bottles or empty the trash every day unless you ask.

I was careful where I stepped because I could feel dust on the floor. The room was very dirty, and the towels had stains. I found ants on the table beside the bed when I first checked in, but couldn’t find where they were coming from. There was mold in lots of places, and the hotel felt run-down and poorly maintained. The water had a strong, unfiltered smell, and the bathroom was really small. The air conditioning was hard to adjust: one degree warmer was too hot, and one degree cooler was too cold. This is a three-star hotel, so I didn’t expect many amenities, but the condition was disappointing. Travelodge has a good reputation as a no-fuss business hotel, which made this stay especially unfortunate. The place felt average and a bit uncomfortable, and I’m glad I only stayed one night.
