OYO 90565 Teresek View Motel

The owner was very pleasant and helpful, and the floors in the room and corridors were clean. But the walls had lots of dirty marks and the rooms badly need fresh paint. Toilet paper bins weren’t emptied during my three nights. The place is no longer operating under OYO because, the owner says, they haven’t paid him. I had to pay again and am still waiting for my refund. My second OYO disaster.

We booked through Agoda at a very cheap price, but when we arrived, the owner said he no longer worked with Agoda and didn’t care that we’d already paid. He told us we’d have to pay him the full amount to stay, which was double the price we’d seen online. This felt like a scam, as other reviews have said. We left after that awful experience, and it was hard to find somewhere else because everything was already booked. Kuala Tahan is a small village with very few affordable options for backpackers. Do not stay here for any reason.

The balcony view was nice, and the place was decent enough, though it could use a refresh. The rooms are very basic, but the air conditioning and shower worked. The owner and his family were welcoming and friendly. It’s okay for a night or two, and you get what you pay for. Contact the owner directly, and I would not recommend booking through OYO. The owner said OYO hadn’t paid him and that he wasn’t operating under them, even though we booked with Agoda through OYO. We had to pay the owner directly, and Agoda and OYO were no help with the refund. The OYO photos are all a facade.

There’s a convenience store right across the street, along with a restaurant that serves an inexpensive breakfast and a nice dinner. The staff are nice, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Wi-Fi in the lobby worked well enough for email, which is pretty good for the jungle. The rooms have small balconies facing either the street or the forest, so the views are good either way. The AC gets really cold, which felt great after hiking in the hot jungle. The main annoyance was the noise. Every morning, local kids gathered in the lobby for a screaming contest, with the loudest kid winning. Most days had multiple winners. More seriously, the hotel lets its own kids and local children run up and down the hall screaming all day and night. I know I’m not the first guest to find it annoying.
