Oyo 90630 Mat Leon Village

Our two days with the guide were awesome. He knew the jungle so well and kept helping us and explaining things. We trekked and spent one night in an observatory. The basic bungalow was very clean and had everything we needed, and the restaurant was really good. It's two minutes by car from the main jetty, with a free shuttle. Highly recommend!

The location is lovely, beside the river and surrounded by jungle, though it's a short, hilly walk from town. Jeep shuttles run, so you can skip the walk. The accommodation is basic, the staff are friendly, lunch and dinner are good, and there's a simple breakfast spread with tea and coffee available 24/7. I'd skip the jungle night safari, which we found disappointing. Definitely go to Lata Berkoh. We walked there in four hours and arranged a boat back; the scenery on the ride was incredible.

We had a perfect time here. It's a great place to really experience the jungle, and we'd strongly recommend Mat Leon's jungle tours and trekking. The guide was knowledgeable and entertaining, the restaurant served delicious Malay dishes, and the rooms were basic but clean.

We had our best experience on the two trips we booked at the Mat Leon Village. Our guide was born in the village and has over 18 years of guiding experience. He was friendly, answered our questions easily, and shared what he knew about the wildlife during the Canopey Walkway hike. We also visited the Batek tribe together, and he was a great person to ask about the tribe. He gave us lots of information and answered everything with ease and enthusiasm. You could tell he felt at home in his surroundings, which made our Taman Negara stay a great experience. His driving on the wild river was impressive too.
