Grand Puteri Hotel

The service was good, but the room was dusty. Breakfast was the worst I’ve had: the chicken seemed old and smelled bad, and the egg was close to expiry and starting to smell too. I don’t usually complain about food, but this was quite bad for hotel breakfast. I should have booked the room without breakfast. There are plenty of other breakfast options nearby.

The city location has a nice feel, and Pasar Payang, a popular shopping spot, is a must-visit about a 15-minute walk away.

Breakfast was good, with simple Malay options, and we loved the nasi dagang. The buffet is just RM15/pax for non-hotel guests too. At peak times, though, the breakfast flow needs work. It was hard to find seats, and some people who had just arrived waited for a table themselves instead of waiting for staff to assign one. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the room was comfortable. Our water heater kept acting up even after it was fixed; the technician recommended a room change, and they moved us. The pools weren’t maintained very well and the water looked a bit dirty. They have separate Men’s and Women’s pools, but the Men’s pool was under maintenance during our stay.

The location is the hotel’s strongest point: right in the middle of Kuala Terengganu’s busiest area, with almost everything within walking distance. My night at The Grand PUTERI Hotel was a letdown after I’d read so many good reviews about the location, rooms, and buffet. The room smelled like wet carpet and dirty socks. Maybe the mosque speakers were especially loud, or maybe my corner room was right below them. The TV was smaller than my PC monitor, the bed was just bearable, and the pillows were thin and weightless. In the bathroom, the grouting was dirty, there was no soundproofing, and the shower flooded the whole toilet floor. Breakfast was a 2/10. The only thing worth mentioning was the quirky door gift: Gardenia bread, mineral water, and a soy drink. Everything else was cold, including the half-boiled eggs, egg toast, and nasi dagang. It came with the room, so I ate it anyway, but I’d skip it if you can eat outside. I’d book here only if location is your main concern. Choices in Kuala Terengganu seem limited, with no condos, barely any Airbnb options, and mostly seaside chalets or homestays. Don’t bother with the breakfast.
