Chinatown is an easy walk away, with local food, street stalls, and plenty of shops. The bus terminal and a supermarket are nearby too, so getting around or picking up daily essentials is straightforward. For a budget hotel, the location is a real plus. The rooms are plain and practical, but clean and kept to an acceptable standard. You get the basics, including air conditioning, a shower with decent water pressure, a water dispenser, and free WiFi. It's a simple place to stay, with traditional Malaysian food and quick shopping close at hand.
The staff were welcoming, and after checkout they kept my backpack at reception until my evening bus. I also appreciated the free coffee, since buying coffee while traveling adds up. The guesthouse is only a few minutes from the bus terminal and within walking distance of China Town and the main sites in KT. I was upgraded to a double room with a private bathroom, which I was glad about because the shared bathrooms looked a bit spooky. Some things needed attention: there was hair on the bed blankets, and I don't think they were washed after every guest. I had to remove the bulb to switch off the light, and the boiler only worked sometimes.
The staff were kind and polite, and the Chinese uncle was friendly too. It turned into a good stay, and I think I'd come back if I visit Kuala Terengganu again. I ended up here after a terrible experience at Hotel Mini Indah and needed another hotel right away. I found this one while searching online for somewhere cheap. The room was okay for me, despite having no window. Free WiFi and hot water were available, and there was a lobby refrigerator where you could buy a drink. The cheapest room was RM70, though online sites or apps might cost less. I booked offline at short notice, so that wasn't an option for me. The location is very handy by the bus terminal, especially for backpackers traveling by bus.
The place was affordable and comfortable enough for travelers needing somewhere to rest. I stayed before Covid, in 2019 if I remember right, and only thought to review it after being in the area again. I had two rooms. Both were nice, with a slightly creaky bed in mine as the only small issue; the other room had no problems. It's fairly close to the bus terminal and city center. I got lucky with the noise, since it was quiet at night despite being near the center. Service was mixed: I checked in sometime after midnight, and the receptionist seemed groggy, which I understand. The housekeeper I spoke with the next day was friendly and helpful, but a different receptionist that day had a bit of an attitude.
The air-conditioning worked well and the room was cool, with a fan too. WiFi was reliable, and the inside bathroom was clean and had hot water. Towels and cheap stone soap were provided, but there was no drink. It's in town just behind the bus station, and the low price is worthwhile if you only need a place to sleep. The room did smell of stale smoke, which felt unhealthy.
