Imperial Riverbank Hotel Kuching

The riverfront location is the big draw, and services are easy to reach nearby. We stayed 2 nights for CA$128, including a very basic breakfast. Our room had plenty of space, a comfortable king bed, fridge, air conditioning, and a large desk/work area. The bathroom layout was good, though it could have been cleaner. Staff were friendly, helpful, and professional, and check-in and check-out were easy. There are dual elevators, plus a 24hr 7-eleven in the same complex.

I was impressed by the room size and the view from the window, both worth 5 stars. The room was really comfortable, and breakfast was reasonable. The only letdown was the toiletries. I expected basics like shampoo, soap, or a disposable toothbrush to be provided.

The location was hard to beat, and we loved it. We stayed in an AirBnB unit rather than on the hotel side. The room did what we needed, but our balcony was the only one in the whole building enclosed by a cage, which distracted from the incredible riverfront view. The AC units took a long time to cool things down, so we had to leave them running the entire stay. Once they cooled the rooms, it was comfortable. The back bedroom, which had no view, was made the master instead of replacing the woefully inadequate unit in the room that should have been the master. There were two bathrooms, but the tub/shower in the “master room” wasn't comfortable to shower in, so we used the other one. Its plumbing smelled like sewage the whole time, pretty rank, and though its shower was good, it felt quite unclean. The room served its purpose, but we wouldn't stay again, which is unfortunate given how much we loved the location.

The best thing was the location right on the bank of Kuching River. It was just our luck that the Kuching Regatta happened to be on while we were there. We stayed 3 days and 2 nights last weekend for my nephew's engagement ceremony, and took all the second-floor rooms for our large group. It was decent value for money. The rooms were fine and spacious enough for us, but the buffet breakfast was only a simple, basic standard.
